Friends, in today’s Gospel, Jesus asks, “If salt loses its taste, with what can it be seasoned?”
Lectio Divina
Christian tradition developed the practice of lectio divina as a way to exercise this kind of prayerful reading.
Lectio divina traditionally consists of four simple steps:
1.Reading (lectio): Read a passage of Scripture slowly and attentively. 2.Meditation (meditatio): Meditate on the passage, turning it over in your mind and connecting it with other passages in the Bible. 3.Prayer(oratio): Respond to God in prayer, telling him your thoughts, questions, hopes, fears, and desires as they relate to the passage. 4.Contemplation (contemplatio): Rest in God, enjoying his presence and receiving his love.
The Kerygma
The Goodness of Creation: I am made in God's image and likeness and loved beyond all measure.
The Consequences of Sin: The consequences are separation from God and enslavement to powers I cannot compete against. On my own, there is no way to break free from it. Heaven is a place without sin.
God's Response to Sin: God becomes man to invade one kingdom by a stronger kingdom. The result of this is deliverance from a tyrant I cannot compete against. Jesus atones for my sins and makes it possible for me to reach the destiny for which He created me.
My Response: To entrust myself to the One who has demonstrated His love and His power for me personally.
God loves you personally and has a plan for your life.
Sin separates you from God.
Jesus died on the cross to atone for your sins. This makes heaven possible for you.
Jesus is inviting you to accept His gift of salvation.
Do you want to accept that gift and follow Him as a disciple?
